The Queens College – New Library & Archive, Oxford
GI Energy were employed by Beard Construction to design and install a ground source heating and cooling system for the Queens College New Library and Archive, Oxford.
The ground source array consisted of 10No vertical loops installed to 55m, connected to 2No heat pumps providing peak loads of 20KW heat and 40KW cooling loads. There were various difficulties to overcome including access to site, restricting borehole depths to avoid saline artesian water, drilling from ground surface and protection of pipes during basement excavation etc.
GIE worked well with Beard Construction to deliver the scheme on budget.
