GI Energy work with CHA in Aberdeen

GI Energy were approached by Castlehill Housing Association in Aberdeen to review a number of their 'high energy use' sheltered housing schemes located in 'off gas grid' rural areas.

Reducing fuel poverty and the recent changes to the energy efficiency standards were the main driver for the energy review. GI Energy carried out energy surveys and performed a full multi-technology renewable energy feasibility study on all the applicable technologies for each building. The results showed that by far the most suitable system for each development was individual Ground Source Heat Pumps capable of receiving the domestic RHI for each flat. The GSHP provided the lowest whole life cost, the greatest energy savings (50%) and the highest RHI payments at 18.8p/kWh . The DRHI payments alone will fund the complete systems within the 7 year term of the tariff. Several different GSHP makes were investigated however the most suitable, efficient and the easiest to install was the CTC Ecoheat system which has an integral thermal buffer and heat the DHW instantaneously removing any legionella concerns.

Two developments of 12 flats each have so far been successfully completed with the possibility of further projects in the pipeline. We look forward to working with CHA and CTC on future successful projects.
